Taken from the Australian Clinical Psychology Association, “A clinical psychologist is a psychologist who is an expert in mental health. They have undertaken highly specialised training in the assessment, diagnosis, formulation, and psychological treatment of mental health, behavioural, and emotional disorders across the lifespan. Clinical psychologists are the only psychologists to have this advanced level of education and training in mental health. Education and training of clinical psychologists takes eight years.”
A Clinical Psychologist must complete a minimum of 8 years in both University training and ongoing supervised experience, before using the credentials of Clinical Psychologist. Clinical Psychologists employed at Stepping Stones need to be registered members of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA - which ensures that they uphold their code of ethics and demonstrate continued learning in the area), and be approved to work according to Medicare and Private Health standards. Finally, all staff are required to obtain Criminal History clearances and Working with Children checks.
