Deb is our extremely talented Clinical Psychologist (Master of Clinical Psychology). Prior to joining Stepping Stones, Deb spent many years working for Psychology Services at the Department of Communities: Child Protection and Family Support. Within this role she provided psychological assessment and intervention to children, families and important others. Deb has developed expertise in the areas of attachment, child development, parenting, mental health and trauma.
Deb also worked in the South West community with youth experiencing anxiety, depression, self-harming behaviours, and suicidal issues. Before becoming a Clinical Psychologist, Deb worked as a Registered Nurse / Midwife in various private and public hospital roles.
Now here at Stepping Stones, Deb works with the whole ‘team around the child’ to make meaningful impacts for our clients both with and without disabilities: and so will have an active involvement with the client, the family, school supports and any other external supports that may be involved with each client. In this aspect of her role Deb collaborates, advocates, educates, and celebrates the unique needs of her client. Deb supports the client’s mental health, cognitive, social, behavioural, and emotional development. Her strength-based approach aims to optimise inclusion, adaptation to challenge, and to enhance and celebrate the uniqueness of each family’s functioning.
Deb is trained in the Circle of Security Parenting Program, psycho-education, Mindful Awareness Parenting, Life Story Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Attachment and Trauma-based models. Deb has extensive experience joining with clients and families to investigate behavioural concerns and develop healthy behavioural responses. She now extends this experience to a caseload more focused on clients with disabilities.
