Jake is our provisionally resgistered Psychologist here at Stepping Stones. Jake completed his Bachelor of Social Science degree majoring in Psychology, and his Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology in New Zealand which has given him a strong understanding of disabilities, mental health, and human development. He brings valuable experience working with children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder and varying disabilities, where he developed and facilitated a range of social skills groups back in New Zealand.
Jake also has experience working in residential homes for kids in care, which has allowed him to gain a strong skill set in mental health and how to manage challenging and violent behaviours in youth. This has also enabled Jake to understand some challenges and difficulties that parents/caregivers may face on a daily basis.
Jake has supported children and youth with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, global developmental delay, anxiety, depression, emerging borderline personality disorder, learning difficulties, trauma, sensory regulation issues, and other varying disorders.
Jake's aim of client support has a focus on living a fulfilled and happy life for both the client and the parents/caregivers of the client by offering emotional support, providing behavioural techniques that can be implemented within the household, helping the client to identify and regulate their emotions, and use a strength and solution focused approach.
Jake maintains close and regular supervision with our Clinical Psychologist Deb to ensure that he follows evidence based practice principles.
Outside of work you may see Jake at the markets selling homemade candles, practising yoga at the local gym, or going for a kayak down at the beach.
